I haven't had the opportunity to photograph nearly as many families as I'd like to! They're one of my favorite subjects to photograph because I love being able to see people's family dynamics and personalities come out in a small period of time, captured in the still moments of a photograph. Also, kids are just adorable being themselves so they make it pretty easy to get some great shots! A few weeks back I met this little family on a beautiful and chilly morning to take some photos.
Anneliese, David, and Lysander were all ready to go, Lysander especially! He was so easy to make smile and laugh. If he started getting bored with what I was having him do, I just had to turn the camera around and show him himself on the screen and the giggles would ensue. This session was filled with running, getting thrown in the air, and getting pulled in a wagon. And of course lots of laughter. I loved getting a glimpse into this families life together and being able to capture some of the little moments that day.
With kid and family shoots I try to have an idea of the kinds of shots I want and just have the kid be them and play. Interacting with their parents, playing with their favorite things, running around, they all make for cute pictures if you're paying attention to the moments in between. That's why I love family sessions. There are so many moments happening that from the outside I'm able to see and capture the beauty of it with a camera. Sometimes it's hard to just slow down and look at the life you have around you. With these pictures I hope that I catch and display a glimpse into that beauty.
